Statistics and Probability in a Piggy Bank
Few years ago, my grandma made me a gift, one curious Piggy Bank to save money. The moneybox was really interesting, one of the sides come with a table with some values to cross out every moment that you introduce an amount of money. The top amount to reach was 500.000 COP, 108.37 USD approx. (it´s not too much, Colombia is living the highest money devaluation in history) The fact is that just two days ago I finally broke the Piggy bank. And suddenly I just realize the possibility of writing my fist article trying to applicate and explain with the help of Statistics and Data Analysis the content of that important gift So, this is the information that I found and how I did it, hope this can be useful. (Please help me to improve! Let your comment at the end.)
To start, we import the libraries that we're going to use to handle the data.
In Colombia, we have 5 coins types:
This Scatterplot is the better option to visualize the quantities for each coin type:
Now, i'm going to apply a little bit of Probabilistic about the results. The idea is measure the probability of a coin type being taken out at random:
Finally, the total sum for each coin type is:
[50, 100, 200, 500, 1000]
[ 300 14200 42600 31000 22000]
The total value in coins was: $ 110.100 COP or USD 23.86
